Aline Shakti Franzke is a Research Associate of the NRW Graduate School Digital Society, located at the University of Duisburg Essen, Germany. Her PhD research is centered around ethical guidelines in public management. While obtaining her Master’s Degree in Applied Ethics at Utrecht University, Franzke used her final thesis project to explore the role of ethicists in advising governments in the era of big data. 

During her studies she also worked for the Utrecht Data School, where she developed the Data Ethics Decision Aid (DEDA), a deliberation tool that is widely used in a variety of contexts. Franzke obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at the University of Vienna, where she looked into ethical implications of social robots.

Aline Franzke is affiliated with the Datafied Society and STEEM (Centre for the Study of Technology, Emerging and Ethical Methods, Aarhus University), as well as being a part of the ethics committee for the Association for Internet Research (AoIR).

Aline Franzke studierte an der Universität Wien Philosophie, wo sie bei Judith Simon ihre BA zu ethischen Implikationen von sozialen Robotern verfasste. Im Anschluss absolvierte sie ihren Master in angewandter Ethik an der Universität Utrecht. Ihre Abschlussarbeit befasste sich mit der Rolle der Ethikerin in der Beratung von Regierungen im Zeitalter von Big Data.

Während ihres Studiums arbeitete sie für die Utrecht Data School und erforschte Datenpraxen in der öffentlichen Verwaltung. Im Auftrag der Stadt Utrecht und zusammen mit der Utrecht Data School entwickelte Frau Franzke die „Data Ethics Decision Aid“ (DEDA) sowie diverse Materialien zur datenethischen Fortbildung. Sie ist Mitglied im Ethikausschuss der Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR) sowohl Affiliated Researcher bei der Datafied Society sowie bei STEEM (Study of Technology, Emerging and Ethical Methods, Aarhus University).

Seit Februar 2018 widmet sie sich im Rahmen der Förderlinie NRW Digitale Gesellschaft, ihrer Promotion an der NRW School of Governance. Ihr Dissertationsprojekt befasst sich mit ethischen Richtlinien im Umgang mit Big Data.
